American composer/clarinetist Evan Ziporyn (Steve Reich Ensemble, Eviyan Trio, Bang on a Can) performs original works for solo clarinet and bass clarinet, including new compositions and selections from his acclaimed Cantaloupe CD, This is Not A Clarinet, including Honshirabe (based on Japanese shakuhachi), Thum Nyatiti, and Partial Truths. Ziporyn's work is informed by his 30+ year involvement with Balinese gamelan, which grew from field work in Balinese villages to his 2009 opera A House in Bali, featured at BAM's Next Wave Festival in New York. He has composed for the Silk Road Ensemble, Kronos Quartet, Nederlands Blazers, the American Composers Orchestra, Brooklyn Rider, So Percussion, Maya Beiser, Wu Man, Sentieri Selvaggi. With Steve Reich he recorde New York Counterpoint and shared in a 1998 Grammy for Music for 18 Musicians. He produced several of Bang on a Can's seminal recordings, including Brian Eno's Music for Airports. He has also recorded with Paul Simon, Meredith Monk, and Matthew Shipp. He currently performs with Iva Bittova and Gyan Riley as the Eviyan Trio.
